Donn Bernal, P. Eng., MBA

Donn began his career in 1998 after graduating from the University of Toronto and completing a Civil Engineering degree.  He started out in aggregate and asphalt quality control for Ashwarren Engineering Services, a subsidiary of the Warren Group.  Donn quickly progressed to a supervisory role in asphalt research and product development, and asphalt mix designs in addition to quality control.

Upon the sale of the Warren Group to Lafarge Canada Inc., he was then given the opportunity to become involved in asphalt plant operations as an analyst and eventually moving into operations management of multiple large volume asphalt plants in the Greater Toronto Area.

With a move to Aecon a few years later as General Manager of their Aggregate and Asphalt Operations, Donn’s next challenge a couple years later was to set up a joint-venture asphalt cement business (Yellowline Asphalt Products Ltd.) for Aecon and Dufferin Construction. Here he grew the business with terminal expansions, brand establishment, and customer relationships for the next 7 years.

In the latter part of his tenure with Yellowline, Donn obtained his MBA from Western University’s Ivey Executive MBA program to hone his skills further with a emphasis on the Sustainability movement.

In April 2020, Donn created Corfinium Solutions Inc. to support asphalt companies in need of growing their company.  These included establishing a company’s asphalt plant business, project managing the construction and then operation of a new asphalt cement terminal, as well evaluating a company for a future acquisition.

In early 2023, Donn obtained a certificate from Cambridge University’s Judge Business School Executive Education Program in “Circular Economy and Sustainability Strategies”.  This is to keep up to the continuously evolving transition of the world to sustainable business practices that is wrapped around the Environment, Social, and Governance movement.

Donn now sees the move to the next chapter: the need to address environmental sustainability in asphalt and well as incorporating renewable energy solutions into the industrial sector.
